Building a Newsletter

It's extremely simple to keep your visitors updated with all the new hub content you and your team expertly curated. Pressly offers an extremely simple way to build a newsletter. 

You can send and monitor a newsletter right from Pressly in four steps:

  1. Create your newsletter template.
  2. Set up a mailing list (optional).
  3. Add content to your newsletter.
  4. Distribute your newsletter.

Creating a New Newsletter Template

When building your newsletter, you have a few default options, but you can also use HTML to completely change the look and feel of the newsletter! 

  1. Navigate the the hub from which you want to send a newsletter.
  2. Click the  Compose icon on the cover image or header bar. 
  3. Click Newsletter on the navigation bar. 
  4. Click the Templates > Create Template buttons. 


  5. Enter a name for your template in the Template name field. 
  6. Configure the template by
    • Select a template type using the Theme drop-down menu: Email Share, Text Only, Slabs, Minimal, or Digest. 
    • Upload a logo (or cover image, if part of the template) onto your template.
    • Select the accent colors of your newsletter such as the link color.
    • Check the boxes next to the options such as collaborators or tags you want to display or hide in your template.

  7. Define the default configurations of the template using the Settings tab. Enter the following fields that is automatically populated with each newsletter you create using this template.
    • Title,
    • Description,
    • Who the email is sent as, and
    • The reply to address

  8. Click the Create button. 

 Setting Up a Mailing List

A mailing list can be used if you want to send newsletters to individuals who are not currently part of your hub. 

To set up a mailing list, 

  1. Navigate the the hub from which you want to send a newsletter.
  2. Click the  Compose icon on the cover image or header bar.
  3. Click Newsletter on the navigation bar. 
  4. Click the Mailing Lists > Create list buttons. 
  5. Enter a name for this mailing list. 
  6. Upload a CSV file of an existing mailing list you want to include.

    Before you upload your file, make sure the data is organized into two columns: name and email. You can download a sample CSV file to ensure you have the right format. 

  7. Click the Create button.

You can always add or remove emails manually after you've created a mailing list. When viewing your mailing list, you can use the Add Email button or use the Delete icon to remove any emails.

Adding Content to a Newsletter

Adding content is extremely simple using our newsletter tool - a simple drag and drop! This section will show you how to add content and preview what your end user will see. 

You will need to have at least one newsletter template available to create a newsletter. Learn how here!

  1. Navigate the the hub from which you want to send a newsletter.
  2. Click the  Compose icon on the cover image or header bar.
  3. Click Newsletter on the navigation bar. 
  4. Click the Create Newsletter button.

  5. Click the Template button to select the template you want to use for this newsletter. 
  6. Drag the content you want to include into the newsletter preview section.

    Looking for a particular article? Try entering key words into the search bar above the content stream to find what you want!

  7. Click the Preview button to see what the end user will see when they open the newsletter.

Distributing a Newsletter

There are two methods you can distribute your newsletter: through a mailing list on Pressly or a third party marketing automation software such as MailChimp.

Distributing through Pressly

  1. Follow the steps outlined in the previous sections above to create your newsletter. 
  2. If not already defined, enter a subject line. 
  3. Click Select recipients to select either the hub members or mailing list who should receive the newsletter. 
  4. Click Select date/time to pick the time the newsletter should be delivered. 
  5. Click the Schedule button.

Distributing through a 3rd party platform

Once you've created a newsletter, you can also get its HTML code. This allows you to use another platform to send your newsletter. 

  1. Follow the steps to create a newsletter.

  3. Click the Download HTML button.

  4. Paste the HTML into your mail client.
